Go on…..have some fun!!!!

Getting to the point of performing where you don’t want to throw up just before you get on stage comes easier to some than others.  I myself have always kind of enjoyed the limelight, but when push comes to shove have always feared the worst would happen to me on stage.  But….something changed in me last Saturday.  I was playing at a local Farmer’s Market and found myself focusing on all the sounds/people/activites around me more than on my music.  I was on fire - interacting with the crowd, feeding off of people’s comments, dancing and singing along.  It was honestly one of the most fun days of my life!  I made a couple of mistakes sure, but it didn’t matter - I was relating to the crowd and having fun!  So to all you performers out there with a crazy amount of fear of performing….just keep doing it!  Your day will come when you are watching somebody else up there and you’ll think to yourself - I wish that were me up there and really mean it!  You’ll be wringing your hands together in anticipation of showing the world all you got, instead of sitting in fear wondering why you ever agreed to do this show in the first place.  Go on - allow yourself to have fun.  In doing so you allow the audience to have fun too - and after all couldn’t we all use a little more fun in our lives?!

to deadline or not to deadline!

Posted on August 19, 2009 by michelle

Here it is late August and I contemplate the ending of summer and all its glorious fun!  I had planned on writing and recording like crazy this summer, but it seems my family had other plans for me.  With all the great people I’ve seen though and things I’ve done, I’m sure to have lots to write about over the next few weeks.   There is one thing that I’ve learned about myself this summer - mostly that my best work comes when I’m not pressured to do it!  Being in the teaching profession often means working with fairly strict deadlines - and even giving deadlines.  That’s a tough one for me!  Being a songwriter means that inspiration can come in the middle of the night, or not for months at all.  Deadlines don’t always work for musicians…which is why we sometimes get a bad rap for being “lazy”.  :)  For the record I’m not lazy - I just want the music to be “perfect” before it’s released to the world.  So for my wonderful, bright and very creative students….yes, I will be imposing deadlines on you (part of my job), but try to remember to keep your eyes open as you go through this life - you never know when a simple conversation can spark up the inspiration you need to write that great song that gives you goosebumps!  Can’t wait to see you all in 3 weeks!

Michelle Will now available on CD BABY

Posted on December 4, 2008 by michelle

Howdy friends, family and music lovers.  An exciting development in the process of getting my songs out to the world is that everyone can now purchase my CD from CD Baby!  The songs will be available for digital download soon but for now you can get a CD copy delivered straight to your door - dare I say it….just in time for Christmas.  Sorry, but you don’t get a free set of ginzu knives…just great music.  :)

I’ve been crazy busy teaching songwriting and english since Sept, but I’m really loving it.  I’ve also been super busy doing lots of curriculum development and other administrative work for SASS (School Alliance of Student Songwriters).  It’s a very exciting year for the program and I’m sure that we’re going to see lots of growth in the new year.  I have a performance coming up in February too at my pal David Blair’s CD release party.  I’ll have more details in January for y’all so make sure to come back often.  Till then - be safe, have fun and go to CD BABY! Much love
