to deadline or not to deadline!

Here it is late August and I contemplate the ending of summer and all its glorious fun! I had planned on writing and recording like crazy this summer, but it seems my family had other plans for me. With all the great people I’ve seen though and things I’ve done, I’m sure to have lots to write about over the next few weeks. There is one thing that I’ve learned about myself this summer - mostly that my best work comes when I’m not pressured to do it! Being in the teaching profession often means working with fairly strict deadlines - and even giving deadlines. That’s a tough one for me! Being a songwriter means that inspiration can come in the middle of the night, or not for months at all. Deadlines don’t always work for musicians…which is why we sometimes get a bad rap for being “lazy”. :) For the record I’m not lazy - I just want the music to be “perfect” before it’s released to the world. So for my wonderful, bright and very creative students….yes, I will be imposing deadlines on you (part of my job), but try to remember to keep your eyes open as you go through this life - you never know when a simple conversation can spark up the inspiration you need to write that great song that gives you goosebumps! Can’t wait to see you all in 3 weeks!
